OPEN PARK DAYS 2026: DISCOVER UGANDA’S WILDLIFE
Open Park Days is a Uganda Wildlife Authority initiative designed to encourage Ugandans and visitors to explore and appreciate the country’s national parks and wildlife. It provides an opportunity to experience Uganda’s natural heritage, learn more about conservation, and promote domestic tourism.
Uganda’s protected areas are taking center stage this September as the country prepares for Open Park Days 2026, scheduled for 25–27 September. The initiative is aimed at encouraging Ugandans and other visitors to explore the country’s national parks and develop a greater appreciation for Uganda’s wildlife and natural heritage. It provides an opportunity for people who may never have experienced a safari to discover the landscapes and wildlife found within destinations such as Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, Lake Mburo and other protected areas.
Open Park Days are important not only for tourism but also for conservation awareness. When people visit national parks and experience elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, birds and other wildlife in their natural surroundings, they gain a better understanding of why these places need to be protected. Tourism also supports communities through accommodation, guiding, transport, food services and other businesses around protected areas.
