About This Trip
This safari takes you to Amboseli National Park with a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro for a two-night stay. You'll travel to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary which hosts the Saltlick Safari Lodge. For decades, it has been one of Kenya's flagship lodges, famed for being among the World's Most Photographed Lodges. You'll enjoy the visit to the Tsavo East National Park which is home to most of the larger mammals, the red-skinned elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, leopards, and hippos among others.
Itinerary
Day 1- Nairobi to Amboseli National Park.
You'll be picked up from the airport, and enjoy the scenery as you drive to Amboseli National Park which is about 260 km from Nairobi, towards the southwest, and on the border with the neighboring country of Tanzania. You will enjoy lunch at the lodge. Later, you will embark on a late afternoon game drive in the park in search of wildlife. Accommodation: Sentrim Amboseli Lodge. Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner.";
Day 2: Full Day in Amboseli — Elephants & Kilimanjaro
A full day exploring Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya's most iconic wildlife destinations. Morning and afternoon game drives through the park's famous swamps and open plains, where massive elephant bulls wade through papyrus and Kilimanjaro dominates the skyline on clear mornings. Amboseli also holds healthy populations of lion, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest, and over 400 bird species. Your guide can identify individual elephant families from published research. Overnight in Amboseli.
Day 3: Amboseli to Saltlick Lodge — Taita Hills
Drive east from Amboseli through the Tsavo plains to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Check in to the iconic Saltlick Lodge — a unique structure on stilts above a floodlit waterhole where wildlife comes to drink through the night. Spend the afternoon on a game drive in the sanctuary, and after dinner, watch from your room balcony as elephants, buffalo, and giraffe gather at the waterhole below. The floodlights make for remarkable night-time photography. Overnight at Saltlick.
Day 4: Tsavo East National Park
After breakfast and a final dawn sighting at the waterhole, enter the vast red dust plains of Tsavo East National Park — Kenya's largest national park. The "red elephants" of Tsavo are famous: they roll in the distinctive red volcanic earth until their skin is terracotta-coloured, giving them a striking appearance unique to this park. Drive through the Aruba Dam area, a reliable hippo and crocodile spot, and along the Galana River where large crocodiles sun on the banks. Overnight at a Tsavo East lodge.
Day 5: Tsavo East Morning Drive & Return to Nairobi
Dawn game drive through Tsavo East, catching lion and cheetah in the cool morning hours before the heat builds. Visit Mudanda Rock — a mile-long whale-backed outcrop that acts as a natural waterhole around which wildlife congregates — for a final taste of Tsavo's scale and wildness. Check out and drive back to Nairobi via the Mtito Andei gate, arriving by mid-afternoon for your onward journey.
